Middle East geography is the scene of international problems that threaten state sovereignty, such as occupation, civil war, terrorism and illegal immigration crisis, as a reflection of global and regional geopolitical power struggles. For a comprehensive analysis of the various political, economic and social conflict dynamics in the Middle East geography, there is a need for multi-dimensional scientific research that takes into account the character of the political administrations, their economic structure, the cultural characteristics of the societies and their unique historical experiences within the Middle East geography.
In this direction, within the framework of the symposium, -which will be held by Istanbul Gelişim University Political and Social Research Application and Research Center (İGÜSAM), with the support of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), in cooperation with MOKHA for Strategic Studies, Middle East, Eurasia and Asia-Pacific Research Platform (ODAP) and UMAM at Istanbul Gelişim University J Blok Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall on 15-16 October 2024, -aims to create an environment for scientific discussion based on a broad perspective by bringing together respected scientists and expert researchers from various countries.
Purpose of the Symposium: Focusing on problems related to geopolitical ruptures and sovereignty issues, The IX. International Middle East Symposium aims to discuss the causes of wide-ranging problems that threaten state sovereignty, such as occupation, terrorism, illegal immigration, ethnic and sectarian conflicts in the Middle East geography, by using multi-dimensional scientific approaches on political, economic and social grounds.
Scope of the Symposium: IX. International Middle East Symposium covers disputes regarding sovereignty in the Middle East geography, that will be held under the umbrella of main themes that are the focus of the disciplines of political science and international relations, such as illegal migration movements, ethnic and sectarian conflicts, energy security, terrorism, civil war, democratization, human rights, freedom of the press, economic development and prosperity, social inequality and justice.
Benefits and Expectations: It is anticipated that the results to be emerged on a scientific basis within the framework of the IX. International Middle East Symposium will produce scientific value in terms of providing data to fields such as domestic/foreign politics, academia and media.
Attention to Participants:
The symposium will be held in three languages: Turkish, English and Arabic.
Participants who will apply to the symposium with a paper in Turkish or Arabic are required to sent an Abstract in English.
Participants whose papers are accepted and who will make their presentations at the symposium must send the Extended Summary to be published in the symposium book until October 7th, 2024.
Extended abstracts will be peer-reviewed in terms of compliance with scientific ethical principles and originality criteria. Extended abstracts with positive referee evaluation - provided that the writer of the extended abstract has presented the paper on the day and time determined in the VIII. International Middle East Symposium program - will be published by Istanbul Gelişim University Press in the Proceedings of the IX. International Middle East Symposium with e-ISBN number.
