The Middle East in a Spiral of Expectations and Uncertainties
 
Along with long years of conflict, social destruction and unresolved problems, while uncertainties continue in terms of the future of the Middle East geography, hopes and expectations continue to exist. In this direction, there is a need for research that takes into account the unique characteristics of the region in order to reveal approaches that have the potential to bring peace and stability to the region.
 
In this context, it is aimed to create a discussion ground where researchers and academicians from various countries come together within the scope of the VIII. International Middle East Symposium, which will be held by Istanbul Gelişim University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Department of Political Science and International Relations, IGUSAM, TUBITAK, TASCA, MOKHA, ODAP and Diplomacy Foundation on 24-25-26 October 2023 at Istanbul Gelisim University J Block Mehmet Akif Ersoy Conference Hall in the Spring term of the 2022-2023 academic year.
 
Purpose of the Symposium: The purpose of the VIII. International Middle East Symposium is to shed light on the causes of the political expectation-uncertainty spiral that has become a characteristic of the Middle East geography. In this direction, with the contributions of distinguished academicians from different countries, it is aimed to present new initiatives to the search for solutions to the political problems of the regional actors by creating a scientific discussion environment in line with an interdisciplinary understanding that focuses on the unique historical, cultural, economic and social dynamics of the region.
 
Scope of the Symposium: VIII. International Middle East Symposium covers scientific discussions that will be held within the framework of the main themes, which are the focus of the discipline of poltical science and international relations such as territorial disputes, migration movements, ethnic and sectarian conflicts, energy security, terrorism, civil war, democratization, human rights, freedom of the press, economic development and welfare, social inequality and politics in the Middle East.
 
Benefits and Expectations: The scientific papers and discussions presented within the scope of the VIII. International Middle East Symposium are expected to provide data for areas such as domestic and foreign politics, academia and media.
 

Important note:
 
The symposium will be held in three languages: Turkish, English and Arabic.
 
Participants who will apply to the symposium with a paper in Turkish or Arabic are required to sent an Abstract in English.
 
Participants whose papers are accepted and who will make their presentations at the symposium must send the Extended Summary to be published in the symposium book until October 20th, 2023.

Extended abstracts will be peer-reviewed in terms of compliance with scientific ethical principles and originality criteria. Extended abstracts with positive referee evaluation - provided that the writer of the extended abstract has presented the paper on the day and time determined in the VIII. International Middle East Symposium program - will be published by Istanbul Gelişim University Press in the Proceedings of the VIII. International Middle East Symposium with e-ISBN number.
